Η Ελλάδα έχει συνολική έκταση 131.957 τετραγωνικά χιλιόμετρα, εκ των οποίων η χερσαία έκταση είναι 130.647 τετραγωνικά χιλιόμετρα  και οι λίμνες και τα ποτάμια αντιπροσωπεύουν 1.310 τετραγωνικά χιλιόμετρα.  Η χώρα είναι  κατεξοχήν ορεινή  και το 80% της χερσαίας έκτασης της  καλύπτεται από 300 μικρά και μεγάλα βουνά.  Ήταν λοιπόν αναμενόμενο η οικονομία της να ήταν πάντα συνδεδεμένη με την ανάπτυξη της κτηνοτροφίας τα παλιά χρόνια και ειδικότερα με την αιγοπροβατοτροφία.

ΓΙΔΟΠΡΟΒΑΤΑ 

Οι κατσίκες η απλώς γίδες όπως τις αποκαλούσαν οι Τσοπάνηδες και τα πρόβατα ήταν κυρίως τα ζώα που είχαν οι κτηνοτρόφοι.  Οι γίδες έχουν συνήθως άσπρες ή μαύρες τρίχες σε όλο το σώμα, ενώ το σώμα του προβάτου καλύπτεται από χοντρό, άσπρο ή καφέ μαλλί. Η κατσίκα και ο τράγος έχουν κέρατα, όμως από τα πρόβατα μόνο το αρσενικό πρόβατο, το κριάρι έχει κέρατα. Οι ουρές των προβάτων κρέμονται προς τα κάτω, ενώ στις  κατσίκας είναι όρθιες.

Όταν τα ζώα τους αρρώσταιναν, οι βοσκοί προσπαθούσαν να τα θεραπεύσουν με ότι εμπειρία είχαν και με τις δικές τους συνταγές και γιατροσόφια. Τα γιδοπρόβατα γενικά ζουν 6-8 χρόνια.

Τα πρόβατα βόσκουν το ένα δίπλα στο άλλο και φαίνεται να βόσκουν βιαστικά αρπάζοντας μερικές χαψές χορτάρι και προχωρούν μπροστά για κάτι το καλύτερο. Το άνω χείλος τους έχει την ικανότητα να κάνει την επιλογή του γρασιδιού κατά τη βοσκή πιο αποτελεσματική.  Προτιμούν να βόσκουν σε πεδινό περιβάλλον που υπάρχει άφθονο γρασίδι.  

Οι κατσίκες σκαρφαλώνουν και τρέφονται με άγριους θάμνους και δεν χρειάζονται γρασίδι για βοσκή. 

Τα γιδοπρόβατα είναι μηρυκαστικά, δηλαδή αναμασούν τη τροφή τους. Το φυτικό υλικό, που καταπίνουν βιαστικά,  αποθηκεύεται στην κοιλιά και μαλακώνει. Αργότερα αναμασούν αυτό το πολτόδες υλικό για να διασπάσουν περαιτέρω την περιεκτικότητά του σε κυτταρίνη και με ειδικά ένζυμα που βρίσκονται στο στομάχι τους  μετατρέπουν την κυτταρίνη σε  γλυκόζη.  Σε αντίθεση με τα μηρυκαστικά ζώα, το ανθρώπινο στομάχι δεν διαθέτει τα εξειδικευμένα ένζυμα που απαιτούνται για την αποτελεσματική διάσπαση της κυτταρίνης σε γλυκόζη και έτσι δεν τρώμε χορτάρι. 

Ο  ΠΑΡΑΔΟΣΙΑΚΟΣ ΤΣΟΠΑΝΗΣ 

Οι κτηνοτρόφοι, γνωστοί ως Τσοπάνηδες, συνέβαλαν σημαντικά και αθόρυβα στην ανάπτυξη της κτηνοτροφίας. Η προσφορά τους ήταν μοναδική και η αξία τους διαχρόνικη. Έτσι οι ρίζες μας είναι οι βοσκοί και τα βουνά. Δυστυχώς όμως οι  παλαιότεροι συνήθιζαν να λένε σε ένα μαθητή που δεν ήθελε να διαβάσει “αφού δεν παίρνεις τα γράμματα τσοπάνης θα γίνεις”.  Με αυτό το τρόπο υποβάθμιζαν και απαξίωναν τη δουλειά του τσοπάνη. 

Ο Τσοπάνης φορούσε φουστανέλα, γελέκι, υφαντές  χοντρές κάλτσες, βρακί μέχρι τους αστραγάλους, και το πανωβράκι που το έδενε με το βρακοζώνι. Όλα ήταν υφαντά με μαλλί από τα πρόβατα του. Το χειμώνα φορούσε τη κάπα για το κρύο και τη βροχή και στο πολύ κρύο φορούσε τη καπερώνα,  ένα χοντρό αδιάβροχο  με κουκούλα  που έφτανε μέχρι τον αστράγαλο. Ήταν φτιαγμένη από γιδόμαλλο ή τραγόμαλλο, χωρίς μανίκια και όταν ο Τσοπάνης έπεφτε να κοιμηθεί ετυλίγετο με αυτήν για να  ζεσταθεί. Τα παπούτσια του ήταν κυρίω γουρνοτσάρουχα. 

Κουβαλούσε επίσης στον ώμο του μια τσάντα, το ταγάρι που έβαλε τα απαραίτητα είδη διατροφής και χρήσιμα αντικείμενα. Ένα αναγκαίο εργαλείο που είχε ο Τσοπάνης ήταν η κλίτσα, που χρησιμοποίησε σαν όπλο προστασίας του ή επίθεσης και για το πιάσιμο του ζώου από τα πόδια. Επίσης για να μετριάσει τη μονοτονία και τη μοναξιά του, μαζί του είχε τη φλογέρα του και έπαιζε ατέλειωτες  ώρες μονότονες και μελαγχολικές μελωδίες. Έτσι ηρεμούσε  το κοπάδι του και φόβιζε τα αρπακτικά.

ΜΑΝΤΡΙ 

Το μαντρί, γνωστό ως γαλάρι, ήταν ενας κυκλικός ή τετράγωνος χώρος, φτιαγμένος με μάντρα από πέτρες. Είχε μια μικρή πόρτα ως είσοδο και έκλεινε με σανίδια. Ως σκεπή είχαν σανίδια και πλατάνια. Στον εσωτερικό  χώρο έστρωναν πουρνάρια ή αλλους θάμνους και πάνω έριχναν άχυρο ώστε τα νερά με ακαθαρσίες να φεύγουν κάτω από τα στρώματα. Μέσα στο μαντρί είχαν ένα ξεχωριστό χώρο που έβαζαν τα μικρά που δεν μπορούσαν να βοσκήσουν. Ο πραγματικός λόγος που τα ξεχώριζαν όμως  από τη μάνα τους  ήταν να μην είναι συνέχεια μαζί και βυζαίνουν τη μάνα τους.  

Πολλές φορές κατασκεύαζαν ένα ξύλινο μαντρί.

Όταν γύριζε ο Τσοπάνης από τη βοσκή έβαζε τα ζώα του στο μαντρί και εκεί άρχισαν τα βελάσματα προσπαθώντας να βρει το παιδί τη μάνα και η μάνα το παιδί. Μπορούσε κάθε ζώο να αναγνωρίσει το άλλο από το χαρακτηριστικό βέλασμα! 

ΣΤΡΟΥΓΚΑ

Κοντά στο μαντρί ήταν φτιαγμένη η στρούγκα, από τα ίδια υλικά, αλλά με δύο πόρτες. Η μια ήταν μεγάλη για να μπαίνει το κοπάδι και η άλλη μικρή και στενή, τόσο που να χωράει μόνο ένα ζώο για να περάσει. Κάθε πρωί και βράδυ στη  μικρή έξοδο περίμενε ένας ή δυο τσοπάνηδες, έπιαναν ένα-ένα ζώο όταν πήγαινε να βγει και το άρμεγαν. Τη στρούγκα την έφτιαχναν την άνοιξη που αρχίζει το άρμεγμα των ζώων.  Όταν υπήρχε κακοκαιρία ή έβρεχε, το άρμεγμα γινόταν μέσα στο ίδιο το μαντρί. 

 

ΤΥΡΟΚΟΜΕΙΟ 

Λίγο πιο πέρα από τη στρούγκα είχαν το τυρολομειό. Μόλις  τελείωνε το άρμεγμα το γάλα μεταφέρετο με τη καρδάρα στο γαλατά, ο οποίος στη συνέχεια το έριχνε σε μεγάλο καζανι κοιτούσε τη θερμοκρασία και αν χρειαζόταν το ζέστανε και μετά το έπηζε. Δίπλα είχαν τσαντίλες όπου το έριχναν για καλή στράγγιση και γινόταν τυρί. Με ειδικό τρόπο έφτιαχναν και τη μυζήθρα. 

ΑΛΛΗΛΕΓΓΥΗ  ΤΩΝ ΒΟΣΚΩΝ

Υπήρχε συνεργασία και αλληλεγγύη μεταξύ των Τσοπάνηδων. Έτσι λοιπόν στη κατασκευή των μαντριών, στο κούρεμα των προβάτων ή στη γέννα του κοπαδιού προσέτρεξαν και άλλοι βοσκοί από γειτονικά μαντριά για να βοηθήσουν. Το Πάσχα έσφαζαν τα αρνιά, του Αγίου Κωνσταντίνου τα κατσίκια, το 15αύγουστο της Παναγίας και τα Χριστούγεννα, τα πιο ηλικιωμένα ζώα.. Με το τρόπο αυτό γινόταν ανανέωση του κοπαδιού και ταυτόχρονα οι κτηνοτρόφοι είχαν κρέας να φάνε και οικονομικό όφελος από τη πώληση του κρέατος. 

ΜΟΡΙΑΣ 

Οι Τσοπάνηδες με τα γιδοπρόβατα τους από τη Στερεά Ελλάδα έβρισκαν καταφύγιο και σιγουριά στη χερσόνησο της Πελοποννήσου, γνωστή ως Μοριάς, ειδικότερα στα ανέγγιχτα βουνά της Αρκαδίας με τη παρθένα φύση και άφθονη βλάστηση. Η πολυμορφία του εδάφους σκεπασμένη από πουρνάρι, θρούμπι και σμυρτιά και με τα απέραντα οροπέδια, τα πυκνά δάση και τις ρεματιές, έκαναν τη περιοχή ιδανική για ανάπτυξη της κτηνοτροφίας, ειδικότερα για κατσίκες που σκαρφαλώνουν και τρέφονται με άγριους θάμνους. Έτσι λοιπόν σε αυτή τη πανέμορφη φύση, πολλοί ποιμένες της Στερεάς Ελλάδας ήρθαν στα Μωραΐτικα βούνα τμηματικά και κατά καιρούς, όπως Αρβανίτες, Βλάχοι και Ρουμελιώτες.  Οι ντόπιοι τους αποκαλούσαν Σκηνίτες. Όλοι ήταν ευπρόσδεκτοι από τις αρχές, ειδικότερα οι κτηνοτρόφοι και τους υποστήριζαν δια νόμου διότι η κτηνοτροφία ήταν απαραίτητη για την τοπική οικονομία. Μάλιστα τους έδωσαν και καλλιεργήσιμη γη και προστασία για να μπορέσουν να επιβιώσουν και να ριζώσουν. 

Πρέπει να τονίσω ότι οι Αρκάδες βοσκοί ήταν εξαιρετικοί πολεμιστές και οδηγοί στην Επανάσταση του 1821, αφού γνώριζαν όλα τα μονοπάτια στα βουνά της Αρκαδίας και σε όλη τη Πελοπόννησο.

ΜΕΣΣΗΝΙΑ

Η κτηνοτροφία στην Αρκαδία ήταν διαδεδομένη, ειδικότερα τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες, ωστόσο οι σκληροί χειμώνες ανάγκασαν τους βοσκούς να μετακομίσουν νότια το χειμώνα στην επαρχία Μεσσηνίας, ιδιαίτερα στο νοτιοδυτικό τμήμα, όπου ο χειμώνας ήταν ήπιος και υπήρχε άφθονη βλάστηση για τα ζώα τους. Η γη της Μεσσηνίας, λόγο του ότι είναι επίπεδη, είναι καλλιεργήσιμη και κατάλληλη και για την εκτροφή προβάτων. 

Υπολογίζεται ότι οι Τσοπάνηδες της Αρκαδιας με το ποίμνιό τους μετανάστευσαν σταδιακά τον 18ον αιώνα προς στην Πυλία. Το αξιοσημείωτο είναι ότι οι Αρκάδες και οι Μεσσήνιοι είχαν κάτι το ξεχωριστό στις σχέσεις τους, ακόμη και σήμερα έχουν άριστες σχέσεις. 

Οι Βοσκοί με τα γιδοπρόβατα κατέβαιναν το Φθινόπωρο από την Αρκαδία στη Μεσσηνία και την Άνοιξη επέστρεφαν στην Αρκαδία, έτσι οι ντόπιοι τους  ονόμασαν Ανεβοκατεβάτες. Τα γιδοπρόβατα φορούσαν στο λαιμό ένα κουδούνι ή τροκάνι, ώστε ο βοσκός να τα ακούει και να τα εντοπίζει εύκολα. 

Όταν άρχιζαν το ταξίδι τους προς τα χειμαδιά της Μεσσηνίας υπήρχε μια ανεπανάληπτη οχλοβοή. Τα κουδούνια και τα τροκάνια χτυπούσαν μελωδικά, τα γιδοπρόβατα βέλαζαν, τα σκυλιά γαύγιζαν, ενώ οι τσοπάνηδες σαλαγούσαν τα ζωντανά τους κατά τα χαμηλώματα, φωνάζοντας και σφυρίζοντας. Μπροστά πήγαιναν τα μουλάρια και τα άλογα φορτωμένα με τα απαραίτητα ρούχα και είδη οικιακής χρήσης, όπως μπατανίες, σαΐσματα, κουβέρτες και τη συσκευή που χρησιμοποιούσαν για το τυροκομειό, όπως καζάνια, τετζέρια, σκάφες, τσαντίλες και ότι άλλο ήταν απαραίτητο. Ακολουθούσαν τα γίδια και μπροστά πήγαινε ο τράγος, περήφανος και καμαροτός, τον αποκαλούσαν γκεσέμι. Ήταν μεγαλόσωμος με μεγάλα κέρατα και βαρύ τροκάνι και οδηγούσε το κοπάδι στο κατάλληλο δρόμο.

Πίσω από τα γίδια ακολουθούσαν τα πρόβατα, ενώ τα τσοπανόσκυλα πάντοτε πήγαιναν μπρος και πίσω από το κοπάδι. Ο πιο έμπειρος Τσοπάνης επέβλεπε το κοπάδι ώστε να ακολουθήσει το κατάλληλο δρόμο.

Το βράδυ που σταματούσαν να κοιμηθούν, τα τσοπανόσκυλα έμεναν άγρυπνα, γαύγιζαν και ούρλιαζαν για να φοβίσουν τα αγρίμια όπως τους λύκους. Υπήρχαν επίσης πολλοί κλέφτες εκείνη την εποχή, οι οποίοι έκλεβαν ξένα ζώα για να μη σφάζουν τα δικά τους και μειώσουν το κοπάδι τους. Το ονειρό τους ήταν να αποκτήσουν 1000 γίδια ή πρόβατα.

Αρχικά είχαν καλύβες στη Μεσσηνία  διότι κάθε άνοιξη επέστρεφαν στα σπίτια τους στην Αρκαδία που είχαν μείνει οι νεαρές οικογένειες με τους ηλικιωμένους γονείς τους. 

Οι Τσοπάνηδες, εξυμνούσαν με ποιήματα και τραγούδια τα βιοματάτους όπως  καλοκαίρια και χειμώνες, παλληκαριές και λεβεντιές, λαχτάρες και καημούς, χαρές και λύπες, έρωτες, αντιζηλίες και απιστίες.

Αφιερώνω λοιπόν σε όλους τους Λεβέντες Ανεβοκατεβάτες του Μοριά  στα Χειμαδιά της Μεσσηνίας δύο ωραία τραγούδια του αείμνηστου Δημήτρη Ζάχου..

 ΣΑΛΑΓΑΤΑ ΤΑ ΠΡΟΒΑΤΑ ΜΙΚΡΗ ΤΣΟΠΑΝΟΠΟΥΛΑ

ΤΑ ΧΕΙΜΑΔΙΑ ΤΗΣ ΜΕΣΣΗΝΙΑΣ

Τελικά, πολλοί από τους Ανεβοκατεβάτες αποφάσισαν να παραμείνουν στα χειμαδιά της Μεσσηνίας όλο το χρόνο. Ίσως να βαρέθηκαν να κάνουν το ταξίδι κάθε χρόνο ή να προτιμούσαν το ήπιο κλίμα και τις καλύτερες συνθήκες καλλιέργειας στη Μεσσηνία.

Μερικά από τα χωριά της Μεσσηνίας που μετοίκησαν Αρκάδες βοσκοί ήταν: ΑΚΡΙΤΟΧΩΡΙ, ΑΡΑΠΟΛΑΚΚΑ, ΒΛΑΣΑΙΙΚΑ, ΒΟΥΝΑΡΙΑ, ΓΑΛΑΙΙΚΑ, ΓΡΕΒΙΤΣΑ, ΚΑΜΑΡΙΑ, ΚΑΠΛΑΝΙ, ΚΑΛΛΙΘΕΑ, ΚΑΝΤΙΡΟΓΛΗ, ΚΛΕΙΣΟΥΡΑ, ΚΟΡΩΝΗ, ΚΥΝΗΓΟΥ, ΚΥΠΑΡΙΣΣΙΑ, ΚΑΙΝΟΥΡΓΙΟ ΧΩΡΙΟ, ΛΑΧΑΝΑΔΑ, ΛΟΓΚΑ, ΜΗΝΑΓΙΑ, ΜΗΛΙΤΣΑ, ΜΠΑΛΟΔΗΜΑΙΙΚΑ, ΜΠΛΑΝΑΙΙΚΑ, ΜΥΣΤΡΑΚΙ, ΠΗΔΑΣΟΣ, ΡΙΠΕΝΑ, ΤΣΩΝΑΙΚΑ, ΥΑΜΕΙΑ, ΦΑΛΑΝΘΗ, ΦΙΛΙΑΤΡΑ, ΦΟΙΝΙΚΗ, ΧΑΡΟΠΟΙΟ, ΧΡΥΣΟΚΕΛΑΡΙΑ, ΧΩΜΑΤΕΡΟ. 

Οι πρώτοι Τσοπάνηδες από την Αρκαδία που κατοίκισαν στα ΥΑΜΕΙΑ ήταν πέντε αδέλφια ΜΟΥΡΔΟΥΚΟΥΤΑ και οι ΣΑΡΔΕΛΑΙΟΙ.

Στα ΚΑΜΑΡΙΑ ήρθαν τα τρία αδέλφια ΤΟΜΑΡΑ βοσκοί από το Αρκουδόρεμα, Αρκαδίας  και ονόμασαν το χωριό ΤΟΜΑΡΑΙΙΚΑ.

Το χωριό ΒΛΑΣΣΑΙΙΚΑ το δημιούργησαν η οικογένεια ΒΛΑΣΣΗ. Λέγεται ότι ο γέρο Βλάσσης όταν ήταν νέος στην Αρκαδία, ξυλοκόπησε ένα Τούρκο που ενεχλούσε την αδελφή του Κατερίνα και να μην τον συλλάβουν και τον σκοτώσουν, έφυγε και ήρθε και εγκαταστάθηκε στη Μεσσηνία  Οι Βλάσσιδες δεν ήταν μόνο κτηνοτρόφοι αλλά ίδρυσαν νερόμυλους και κυψέλες.

Στα χωριά ΑΡΑΠΟΛΑΚΑ, ΠΗΔΑΣΟ, ΜΠΑΛΟΔΗΜΑΙΙΚΑ και ΓΑΛΑΙΙΚΑ, ήρθαν και εγκαταστάθηκαν βλάχοι βοσκοί από το Αρκουδόρεμα, Στεμνίτσα και άλλα χωριά της Αρκαδίας. 

Στο ΓΡΙΖΟΚΑΜΠΟ εγκαταστάθηκαν οι ΤΣΩΝΑΙΟΙ, κτηνοτρόφοι από το Χρυσοβίτσι, της Αρκαδίας και το ονόμασαν ΤΣΩΝΑΙΙΚΑ.

 Ο εισαγγελέας του Διεθνούς Ποινικού Δικαστηρίου 

(ΔΠΔ)) Khan εξέδωσε εντάλματα σύλληψης για 

τον Ισραηλινό πρωθυπουργό Netanyahu και τον 

υπουργό Άμυνας Galland. Επίσης, για τους τρεις 

ηγέτες της Χαμάς Haniyeh, Sinwar και Al-Masri. Ο  

Khan είπε ότι τα στοιχεία δείχνουν ότι ο Netanyahu και 

ο Galland διέπραξαν εγκλήματα πολέμου και 

εγκλήματα κατά της ανθρωπότητας. Έκαναν σκόπιμα 

επιθέσεις εναντίον των αμάχων της Γάζας, 

συμπεριλαμβανομένων γυναικών και παιδιών, 

προκαλώντας πείνα, ταλαιπωρία και δολοφονίες εκ 

προθέσεως. 

Ο HANIYEH, ο SINWAR ΚΑΙ ο AL-MASRI κατηγορούνται ότι σχεδίασαν και υποκίνησαν τη διάπραξη εγκλημάτων στις 7 Οκτωβρίου 2023 και αναγνώρισαν την ευθύνη τους για αυτά τα εγκλήματα Κατηγορούνται για έγκλημα και εγκλήματα κατά της ανθρωπότητας όπως κράτηση ομήρων, σκληρή μεταχείριση, δολοφονίες, βασανιστήρια και βιασμούς.

Το Διεθνές Ποινικό Δικαστήριο (ΔΠΔ), που ιδρύθηκε με τη διεθνή συνθήκη γνωστή ως Καταστατικό της Ρώμης. δικάζει άτομα για σοβαρά εγκλήματα όπως γενοκτονία, εγκλήματα πολέμου, εγκλήματα επίθεσης και εγκλήματα κατά της ανθρωπότητας. Υπάρχουν 124 χώρες ως υπογράφοντες το ΔΠΔ εκτός από τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και το Ισραήλ.

Μετά την υποβολή της αίτησης του εισαγγελέα Khan στο ΔΠΔ για έκδοση εντάλματος σύλληψης για τους ηγέτες του Ισραήλ και της Χαμάς, μια επιτροπή τριών δικαστών αποφασίζει εάν θα εκδώσει τα εντάλματα σύλληψης και θα επιτρέψει την εκδίκαση της υπόθεσης. Συνήθως χρειάζονται δύο μήνες για να αποφασίσουν οι δικαστές.

Όταν ο Khan εξέδωσε εντάλματα σύλληψης για τον Netanyahu, υπήρξαν πολλές αντιδράσεις και απειλές από πολιτικούς των ΗΠΑ. 

Ο πρόεδρος Biden χαρακτήρισε την απόφαση εξωφρενικη. 

Ο γερουσιαστής Lindsey Graham προτρέπει το Ισραήλ να ρίξει πυρηνική βόμβα στη Γάζα για να τερματίσει τον πόλεμο.

Ο πρόεδρος της Βουλής Johnson απαιτεί από τις ΗΠΑ να τιμωρήσουν το ΔΠΔ για την έκδοση εντάλματος σύλληψης για τον Netanyahu. 

Ο υπουργός Εξωτερικών Anthony Blinken δήλωσε ότι οι ΗΠΑ θα λιμοκτονήσουν τον κόσμο εάν η Παλαιστίνη γίνει κράτος.

Δώδεκα Αμερικανοί γερουσιαστές υπέγραψαν επιστολή προς το ΔΠΔ απειλώντας να εισβάλουν στο ΔΠΔ στη Χάγη, εάν το Ισραήλ αντιμετωπίσει κατηγορίες για εγκλήματα πολέμου.

Οι δώδεκα γερουσιαστές είναι: Tom Cotton, Marco Rubio, Mitch McConnell, Katie Boyd Britt, Marsha Blackburn, Ted Budd, Kevin Cramer, Bill Hagerty, Pete Ricketts, Rick Scott, Tim Scott και Ted Cruz.

Ο γερουσιαστής Sanders λέει ότι η κυβέρνηση των ΗΠΑ δεν μπορεί να εφαρμόσει το διεθνές δίκαιο, μόνο όταν είναι βολικό για αυτούς. Φαίνεται ότι ο Netanyahu και οι Αμερικανοί πολιτικοί νομίζουν ότι ο Netanyahu είναι υπεράνω του διεθνούς δικαίου. Στη πραγματικότητα ο Netanyahu έχει γίνει η αχίλλειος πτέρνα του Biden. Οι ΗΠΑ έχουν πολλά να χάσουν υποστηρίζοντας το Ισραήλ. The International Criminal Court (ICC ) prosecutor Khan issued arrest warrants for Israeli PM Netanyahu and his Defence Minister Gallant. Also, for the three Hamas leaders Haniyeh, Sinwar and Al-Masri. Mr Khan said evidence shows NETANYAHU and GALLAND committed war crimes and crimes against humanity. They intentionally directed attacks against the civilians of Gaza, including women and children, causing starvation, suffering and willfully killing.

HANIYEH, SINWAR AND AL-MASRI are accused of planning and instigated the commission of crimes on October 7, 2023, and acknowledged their responsibility for those crimes They are accused of crime and crimes against humanity: taking hostages, cruel treatment, murder, torture and rape.

The International Criminal Court, founded with the international treaty known as the Rome Statute. tries individuals for serious crimes such as genocide, war crimes, crime of aggression and crimes against humanity. There are 124 countries as ICC signatories except the United States and Israel.

After the application of prosecutor Mr Khan was submitted to the ICC to issue arrest warrants for Israel and Hamas leaders, a panel of three judges decides whether to issue the arrest warrants and allow a case to proceed. It usually takes two months for the judges to decide.

After Mr Khan issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu, there were many threats from U.S. politicians.

President Biden called it outrageous.

Senator Lindsey Graham urges Israel to drop a nuclear bomb on Gaza to end the war.

The speaker of the House Johnson demands the U.S. government to punish the ICC for issuing arrest warrants for Netanyahu.

Secretary of state Anthony Blinken said the U.S. will starve the world if Palestine becomes a state.

Twelve US Senators signed a letter to ICC threatening to invade the ICC in Hague, if Israel faces war crimes charges.

The twelve Senators are: Tom Cotton, Marco Rubio, Mitch McConnell, Katie Boyd Britt, Marsha Blackburn, Ted Budd, Kevin Cramer, Bill Hagerty, Pete Ricketts, Rick Scott, Tim Scott, and Ted Cruz.

Senator Sanders says the U.S. government cannot apply international law, only when it is convenient. For example, when the ICC issued the arrest of Putin for genocide and crimes against humanity for the Ukrainian people, the U.S. government applauded its actions.

It appears that Netanyahu is above international law and he has become Biden’s Achilles heel. The U.S. has a lot to lose by supporting Israel. The intergovernmental organisation comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa and others eager to join, known as the BRICS, are planning to abandon the U.S. dollar and form their own currency. Therefore the American people should ask themselves: is it worth risking of being isolated economically and politically from the rest of the world just to support Israel instead of demanding Israel to agree with Palestine for a two independent state system?

Kassiani  (810- 865 A.D.) was born in a wealthy family In Constantinople and died in Kasos, Greece. She was a Byzantine-Greek composer, hymnographer and poet. She devoted herself to God, built a monastery and lived alone writing poems and hymns. The most famous is the Hymn of Kassiani. Towards the end of her life she left the Abbey and settled in Kasos, Greece. After her death she was canonized by the Orthodox Church as Saint Kassiani.

Theophilos (829-842 A.D.) was the Byzantine Emperor. He died at a very young age from dysentery, a gastrointestinal disease. According to tradition, he loved Kassiani, but never married her. 

Years passed but Theophilos never forgot Kassiani, and one day he decided to visit her at the monastery. Kassiani was alone in her cell writing a hymn when she noticed the arrival of the imperial entourage. She still loved Theophilos but had now dedicated her life to God, and therefore hid, not wanting to allow her old passion to overpower her monastic zeal. She left the half-finished hymn on a table. 

Theophilos discovered her cell and entered it alone. He looked for her but in vain. She was watching him from a closet where she was hiding. Theophilos was upset and cried, regretting that in a moment of pride he had lost such a beautiful, intelligent woman. 

However, he found her manuscripts on the table and read them. As soon as he finished reading, he sat down and added a verse to the hymn. According to tradition, this verse was “like Eve, who upon hearing Adam’s footsteps at dusk in Paradise, hid herself in fear”. 

 As he was leaving, he spotted Kassiani hiding in the closet but did not speak to her, respecting her wish. Kassiani came out of her hiding place after the Emperor’s departure, read his addition to her hymn and then she finished it.

 It is believed that Kassiani wrote the hymn for the anonymous adulteress that Christ saved from stoning, saying “let he who is without sin throw the first stone”. 

The hymn, sung on Holy Tuesday night at Easter and holds a special place in Orthodoxy. It begins with the words, “Lord, behold the sinful woman who has fallen many times.” It is considered one of the most beautiful hymns of ecclesiastical hymnology. 

Petros Gaitanos is well known for singing the hymn of Kassiani. He touches our soul with his melodic voice and instills in us emotion, awe and serenity. Man is God’s only creation that speaks, cries and laughs!         

I agree with Senator Sanders, a man of integrity. It is shameful that the U.S. administration and the European Union have been giving Israel billions of dollars and Euros for military operations in Gaza, allowing Netanyahu to demolish Gaza, kill thousands of innocent men, women and children, and refuse food and medical supplies to enter Gaza for thousands who are on the verge of starvation. 

Sadly, America’s foreign policy has been pathetic, and in many countries there is a great deal of resentment, hatred and hostility towards the American government. Trillions of dollars have been paid by American taxpayers for Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and now for the Israel-Palestine war.  

Regarding Israel, historically the holocaust turned a favorable eye on the Jews. Thus Truman and Stalin made a decisive contribution to the recognition of the state of Israel. Historians claim that Stalin adopted a pro-Jewish foreign policy, probably thinking that the new Israel would have a socialist government and hasten the decline of British influence in the Middle East. Truman, perhaps, felt sorry for the Jews because of the holocaust atrocities, and recognized Israel despite opposition from senior officials in the State Department and from allies around the world who outlined to him that it would not be beneficial to U.S. interests. Since then, all the U.S. Presidents have continued to recognize and support Israel financially and militarily.

The question is: are all the University students worldwide wrong in demonstrating in support of the Palestine cause? Is it worth all the hatred and violence, the destruction, suffering and bloodshed of innocent Palestinian people in Gaza, just for a few square kilometers of arid land that Israel has already started taking from the Palestinians to build settlements? Would it not be wiser to establish a system of two independent states so as to bring peace and stability to  the whole region! 

All the students demonstrating in many American Universities are highly educated and intelligent, and have a right to protest against how the Palestinians are treated and demand that the Netanyahu government stop the carnage and destruction.

The US has become the laughing stock of the world for allowing Netanyahu to do whatever he wants in Gaza. Let us not forget what Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), the 16th U.S. President said: Democracy is the government of the people by the people for the people. Unfortunately, there are many Charlatans in the government today who have nothing in common with Abraham Lincoln.

How would you feel if your neighbor tooks land from  your backyard and builds a house for himself? This is  exactly what Israel has been doing for years. It takes land from the West Bank and builds settlements.

Remember the American Independence from England in 1776,  the British called the American revolutionaries REBELS and TERRORISTS!

On the positive note, the U.S. is still the land of opportunity and the American dream is alive and kicking. Thousands of intentional highly intelligent young men and women come to America to work hard and fulfill their dreams and aspirations in science, technology, engineering, medicine and finance. I was fortunate to come to America, and I am indebted to receive a scholarship and earned my PhD in Chemistry.  It was also America that helped me acquire wealth and become financially independent.

On February 28, 2023, one of  the worst European railway accidents happened in Greece. It shook the entire nation. A passenger train with 346 passengers and 10 crew on board, was traveling from Athens to Thessaloniki, collided head on with a freight train that was coming from the opposite direction on the same track few minutes before midnight. This resulted in a huge explosion that killed many passengers and caused chemical burns to the skin, lungs and larynx of many passengers and rescue personnel.

Such injuries could not have resulted from the mere collision of two trains; they were due to the explosion and resulting fire that broke out because of illegal, flammable substances on the train. The fire burned for 5 hours. Of the 346 passengers, 57 died, 180 were injured and 109 were spared. Most of the passengers were university students. 

PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and other  Greek government officials immediately rushed to report that “the tragedy was primarily due to human error”! But no experts visited the site to determine the cause of the chemical burns, and determined the cause of death to be from the collision, without an autopsy of the dead, or an examination of the injured. The examining magistrate in the inquiry investigated the site of the collision nine months after it happened.

The authorities also ignored all international protocols for similar accidents, and in order to conceal the crucial evidence at the site of the train collision, they dumped human parts, remains and personal belongings of the victims of the train and then had the top layer of soil at the site dug up and discarded in an unknown location, and the entire area paved over. Within 3 days of the accident, the picture at the scene of the crime was completely altered, and it appeared as if the deadly accident had never happened. This was purposely done in order to conceal all evidence and prevent investigators from finding anything that would have brought the guilty parties and  politicians to justice.

In contrast to the indifference and negligence of the Greek officials, the European Regulatory Authority for Railways (RAS) volunteered immediately to send experts to investigate the causes of the deadly collision, in conjunction with Greek investigators. However, the Greek Ministry of Transport refused the input of RAS to assist with qualified personnel. It is obvious that the minister feared that RAS would reveal the causes of the accident.

The European Commission has given Greece over 700,000  euros (760,000 U.S. dollars), from European taxpayers’ money, to modernize its railway network. An investigative report after the accident disclosed that there was complete absence of safety systems, unsuitable carriages, daily breakdowns and derailments, and the training program for railway workers was inadequate. It was determined that the 59-year old man who was working alone at the collision location on the night of the accident had no experience in the field, and had only been on the job 35 days. Railway employees had raised their concerns to the government about the safety of the trains; even two weeks before the deadly crash, a union letter calling for better safety and conditions had been sent to the government. One wonders where the European Commission money went. Corruption at its highest level!

It is shameful that the European Commission has given so much financial assistance to Greece to modernize its railway infrastructure, while the Greek government claims the legal power to deny RAS from investigating the fatal railway crime of February 28, 2023.

Kostas  A. Karamanlis of the Karamanlis clan was Minister of Infrastructure and Transport in the cabinet of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the time of the accident. Ironically, a week before the horrific train accident, Karamanlis praised the excellent operation of the trains and was offended when asked about their safety. He misled the public, urging them to use the railway, knowing full well that the state of the railway system was archaic. After the accident, he resigned, but took no responsibility and said he owed no apology or explanation to the victims’ families. He also declared that he was entitled to retain his parliamentary immunity, and indeed he kept it, even though the law dictates that if there is suspicion of ministerial misconduct, immunity must be waived and the person must undergo a special court proceeding. Ironically, he was allowed to run for election again and was reelected. His behavior indicates that he only cares about power and has no remorse or conscience.

The citizens of Greece are very angry about the government’s claims as to the money it had spent to upgrade the railway system. They have read the experts’ report that revealed the complete absence of safety in the Greek railway system. The Greek people feel trapped in a system that is characterized by egregious corruption and deception. The problem is that the government controls the judiciary system and the mass media and has managed to delude the public into believing that the railway system is safe.

According to Maria Karystianou, a mother who lost her 19 year old daughter in the accident, some parents of the victims had met the Supreme Court Prosecutor in the case, Georgia Adeilini, after the crash, and had protested about the lack of safety and justice. Ms Adeilini advised them not to dwell on the event, but to come to peace with it, with the help of the church. This is unbelievable and inhuman! She still holds her position as Supreme Court Prosecutor. In a democratic society, a crime is tried in court.  This crime was not, because politicians were involved. It was tried in parliament and the outcome was obvious. No one was found guilty and the accident was attributed to human error!

It seems that the Supreme Court Prosecutor was afraid to prosecute and sentence those responsible for the horrific crime because the culprits belong to the category of people who are untouchable. In other words, Greece has a judicial justice system similar to that of Ancient Rome. The people are divided into the Patricians (the ruling class) and the Plebeians (ordinary citizens), and only the Patricians can make and uphold the law.

Without reservation, one can say that the crime in Tempe is the result of years of financial dishonesty, corruption and a multitude of government actions to distort and conceal incriminating evidence. 

On February 14, 2024, Maria Karystianou, the mother who lost her 19 year old daughter in the Tempe tragedy, addressed the European Parliament (watch the video in English), seeking justice, because one whole year after the accident on February 28, 2023, nothing has been done to prosecute those responsible for the Tempe crime.  

PM Mitsotakis, however, proclaimed on the anniversary of the tragedy that “all responsible will be held accountable and the guilty will be punished”. His lies and hypocrisy are not only shameful but disgusting!

According to the latest report by an international transparency committee, Greece is one of the most corrupt countries in Europe. The country is plagued by poverty, crime, corruption, tax evasion, lack of transparency, incompetence, disorganization, lack of accountability, indifference, bribery, nepotism and lack of meritocracy. Therefore it is only to be expected that it placed second to last among the 27 countries in the Eurozone in 2023 based on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per Capita.

One can only wonder why the European Union keeps Greece as a member, since it has nothing in common with the other members, especially the North European countries.

The world Greek language day is celebrated on February 9, the day of the death of the national poet of Greece, Dionysios  Solomos (1798 – 1857 A.D.). He was born in Zakynthos as the illegitimate son of Nicolaos Solomos, a wealthy noble. Dionysios is regarded as a great Greek poet, especially known for his poem hymn to liberty.

The Greek language is an immeasurable wealth, said the Greek philosopher Socrates (469-399 B.C.) one of the most important figures of Greek and world culture.

Let’s remember that over 150,000 English words are derived from the Greek language.

So let’s show some pride and respect for the Greek language. Unfortunately, it is deplorable to hear every day in the Greek media the chatty and ridiculous journalists (I wonder where they studied journalism) and the ignorant political establishment using English words like:

King Charles the 3rd doesn’t pay any inheritance taxes on his mother’s massive wealth. It appears that Feudalism is still in practice in the United  Kingdom today!

Although it is said that death and taxes are inescapable for ordinary British citizens, according to The Economist, King Charles the 3rd is exempt from the 40% inheritance tax. The Crown Estate is valued at 34.3 billion U.S. dollars. Its holdings include Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, land and property in London and across the United Kingdom. King Charles also oversees more than $42 billion U.S. dollars in assets worldwide, and $500 million from his mother the Queen’s private wealth, including a home farm, jewels and art collection. These are all tax free. It is unbelievable and outrageous that this is still permitted by British law in the 21st century

Η Βασιλική περιουσία εκτιμάται στα 34,3 δισεκατομμύρια αμερικανικά δολάρια και περιλαμβάνει   τα Ανάκτορα του Μπάκιγχαμ, τα Ανάκτορα του Κένσινγκτον, γη και ακίνητα στο Λονδίνο και σε ολόκληρο το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο. Ο βασιλιάς Κάρολος επίσης  επιβλέπει περισσότερα από 42 δισεκατομμύρια αμερικανικά δολάρια σε περιουσιακά στοιχεία παγκοσμίως και 500 εκατομμύρια αμερικανικά δολάρια από τον ιδιωτικό πλούτο της μητέρας του Βασίλισσας, συμπεριλαμβανομένης μιας οικιακής φάρμας, κοσμημάτα και συλλογής έργων τέχνης. Since the Liberals, under the leadership of Justin Trudeau, took over ten years ago, Canada has become a socialistic nation. Historically, Socialism has destroyed the entrepreneurial spirit in people, and wherever socialism has been implemented, it brought poverty to the general population.

The Canadian government prints money to cover all the costs of social services, with the result that the debt has reached uncharted territories, and the interest paid by Canadian taxpayers for the debt is unprecedented. The Canadian dollar has lost more than 35% of its value against the U.S. dollar since the Liberals came to power. Income taxes and other service taxes are very high, yet the  government collects more than 50% of estate taxes. 

New professional immigrants cannot practice their profession since their qualifications are  not recognized by the government. 

Housing is extremely expensive, both to rent and to buy, because there is a shortage, due to the fact that half a million immigrants are coming to Canada annually. A young family has to save for twenty years just to make a down payment to buy a house in Toronto or Vancouver.

Mass immigration has brought about high crime, corruption, overcrowding transportation and poor quality of education.

The so-called free health care is collapsing because the shortsighted government officials have not increased the number of medical and nursing students in Canadian Universities even though they knew that the baby boomers and the new immigrants would overload the system. One has to wonder who is behind the Healthcare system in the country! Patients have to wait in Emergency for more than 24 hours to see a doctor and for months to see a medical professional or have an operation. Yet Canada spends more for healthcare than all of the developed countries.

The country is run by monopolies and oligopolies in banking, telecommunications, housing, retail, and other services . Canadians pay more than Americans for food, alcohol, housing, transportation, cell phones, gasoline, airline tickets and banking services. All these factors have forced thousands of immigrants and other Canadians to leave the country.
