CHRISTOS P. TSONIS PROFESSOR OF CHEMISTRY
Christos P. Tsonis was born in the picturesque village Finikounda, Messinias, Greece. After completing Primary School in Finikounda and High School in Pylos, he moved to Canada and then to the U.S.A. to study Chemistry, earning his BS, MS and PhD degrees in Chemistry at the University of Akron, Ohio, U.S.A. The University of Akron is considered one of the world’s most renowned Institutions in the field of New Materials and Polymers and has some of the brightest researchers. He was interested in specializing in Synthetic Polymer Chemistry using Homogeneous Catalysis. As a graduate student, he taught and conducted research at the University of Akron. After graduation he held teaching and/or research appointments at Laurentian University, the National Research Council of Canada and KFUPM.

RESEARCH
His research lies in Homogeneous Catalysis and Polymers and particularly in product analysis and its mechanistic aspects of alkenes, alkynes and arenes by transition metal complexes. Also, synthetic techniques, mechanistic pathways and structural characterization of copolymers derived from liquid SO2 with alkenes, alkynes and their derivatives in the presence of the (CH3)3COOH/SO2 initiator system at relatively low temperatures. Aromatic Hydrocarbon-Based Polymers.
He has authored and co-authored a number of peer reviewed research articles, reviews, book chapters and invited book chapters that have been published in the Journal of American Chemical Society, the Journal of Polymer Science, Polymer, the Journal of Molecular Catalysis, the Journal of Organometallic Chemistry, Comprehensive Polymer Science and the Polymeric Materials Encyclopedia.
Currently he is retired from academic life and resides in Toronto, Canada, with his wife Susan Doy, their son Frank, daughter Sophie, her husband Louis and their children Ana Karolina and Lucas. Christos is an avid investor, managing his multimillion dollar private Investment Holdings and still marvelling at the mysteries of Chemistry in our world that make life so rich.
